| Long Wearing Foundation |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|07:28 pm] |
|
What is your HG long-wearing foundation? I'm currently using Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra, which I really like, but I'm looking for something with a bit more coverage to hide pores, some redness from pimples, as well as some minor acne scarring. Plus I'm a bit of a foundation whore and always wonder if I can find something better. I've tried Colorstay and Estee Lauder Double Wear and loved the fact that they looked flawless almost all day, but they always break me out (maybe it's the SPF?). Some foundations I'm thinking of trying are Make Up For Ever Matt Velvet, Make Up For Ever HD, Prescriptives All Skin Liquid Mineral Foundation, and Diorskin Forever Extreme Wear. I have very sensitive combination skin that is especially prone to breakouts. I'm also pretty fair skinned with pinkish undertones, so good color selection is important. Does anyone have any reviews or recommendations? I'd really appreciate it! :D |

| "I AM Somebody": Sesame Street Segment with Jesse Jackson |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|05:50 pm] |
"I realized just how effective the demonization of welfare has been when I was actually shocked to hear kids, in a show targeted at other kids, being led in a chant that said being poor or on welfare shouldn’t be shameful and did not reduce their worth as human beings. Can you imagine a TV show, even on PBS, putting something like this on the air today? Our public discourse at this point says that being on welfare is shameful, and that those receiving it in fact aren’t “somebody.” They are dependents, lazy loafers, and their kids are just additional burdens on the state; they don’t have the same rights to dignity and respect as other citizens, and they certainly shouldn’t expect to get it."

This picked up my mood considerably today. And while it's specifically advice or a suggestion of some kind, maybe it'll pick up someone's mood too? |

| Valentina May and some other stuff... |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|07:09 pm] |
As you all probably know, my number one girls name is Valentina. From my last post about it, I've gathered that some love it, some hate it, and some never heard it before/didn't know it was even a name, and aren't nuts about it. Anyway, if I were ever going to use it, I'd like to use May for the middle name, since that was my grandmother's name. Any thoughts? any other middle names for Valentina? I really like Valentina May but I'm curious about some other middle names. number one boy's name- Nathaniel Eric. (Eric is my dad's mn)
I like all nickname possibilities for these names. Nate, Tina, Val, etc. They are all alright with me. Also, it's worth a mention that both names sound good with our last name. but we are not having kids anytime soon. It's just fun to select names. It's something I've been doing since I was a kid. I remember the first name I got hooked on when I was like 5 years old in 1985 was Amy Lynn. I swore up and down that I would have a child by this name. LOL. |

| Pregnant? |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|05:32 pm] |
I didn't start worrying about this until yesterday. For the past 2 weeks or so, I've been having a weird pain in the uterus area. I'm on Alesse 28. I had sex with my boyfriend from September 29 - Oct 5th while on the pill. On Saturday the 3rd, I took my pill about 4 or 5 hours late, but took it as soon as I remembered. That was my only mistake. On the 3rd, we had sex early morning, before I was due to take my pill at 11:30 (when I usually take it) and didn't have sex until Sunday morning, the 4th, when I took my pill right on time. Also, I was stacking the pack that month because I wanted to skip my period when he was here. It worked successfully and I didn't get a period. Right now, I'm on day 20 of my pack - starting my placebo week tomorrow. I'm just a little worried that I could be pregannt. I didn't even remember the one little mistake of taking the pill 4 or 5 hours late until I started worrying about this pain and now I'm curious. It's not really terrible pain...just kind of twingey, I guess? Anyway, let me know if I should actually be concerned. I'm a university student and don't want to waste any money on a test (we don't have dollartree in Canada!) if I don't need to worry. Let me know your opinions. Thanks! |

| When to seek a health care professional about genital herpes... |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|05:24 pm] |
I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't have livejournal. Also, I couldn't figure out how to make an anonymous post here either. :/
Anyway, my friend had oral sex with someone who may have genital herpes...and didn't find out about it til after the fact. According to what we've read, you can get it through oral whether giving or receiving(both occurred). The person who may have genital herpes had no signs of an outbreak, but it can be given to another person regardless if theres an outbreak at the time of contact?
Its about a week and a half since the oral sex occurred. My friend has a tender sore spot on her vagina...slightly raised as though a few bumps are trying to form. The area hurts only when pressure is applied...and the pain isn't severe. As far as I've heard/read, they only way for health care professionals to test for genital herpes is to take a sample of the the lesions?...Is there a blood test? Heard there is, but its not very reliable?...or hard to determine from a blood test? This is all just based off of what I've read, so if my facts are wrong...please correct me.
So the big question is, does my friend wait til its more clear that there is a lesion, or should they go get tested asap?! |

Cyrus 'has crush on Gossip Girl star' Wednesday, November 11 2009, 10:45am EST By Lara Martin, News Editor
Miley Cyrus has revealed that she has a crush on Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley. Speaking to Sweet! Radio Young Hollywood's Zach Sang, the Hannah Montana star confessed that she is "pretty obsessed" with him. "I just saw him in The Stepfather and I'm pretty obsessed with him to be honest with you!" she explained. "I didn't know who he was and I went to see the movie as a joke, because the previews looked scary - not just because the guy's hot!"
She added: "It was actually a good movie. Really creepy." The 16-year-old also joked that she wanted to meet the Queen and would "love to teach her the 'Hoedown Throwdown'".

what do you think of Naomi Elinor? or Eleanor, I can't decide which spelling I like better. Naomi Caroline is a favorite, too. is the three syllables each too much? I like Naomi Faye, too, but not as much as Naomi Elinor/Caroline. |

| Modcloth-esque |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|10:38 pm] |
I love the clothes on Modcloth.com etc, but does anyone know any British online stores which stock a similar style of clothes, shoes and accessories? I know I can get things shipped from Modcloth, and I used to order a lot from American stores but exchange rates and changes in shipping and customs costs mean it is no longer economically preferable :(
Thanks :) |

Someone posted a similar question as this not long ago but I was wondering what people's opinions on this specific thing is.
I've been out of work since April and have been trying to find anything that I'm qualified for. I live at home with my mom and she's pays the majority of the bills. I went Vegetarian in May. What I'm wondering is this:
Would you work at a fast food restaurant serving meat to other people when you don't eat it yourselves?
I, personally, have no desire what so ever to work in the fast food industry. Not because it's beneath me or anything but because I dont' want to be serving meat to other people. I don't try to shove my views or beliefs on anyone but...I find it hard to see my mother cooking meat and eating it. The thing is she's wanting me to take ANYTHING that I'm offered. Even if that would mean flipping burgers myself.
She thinks it's really stupid that I'm a vegetarian and has no problem telling me so. She rolls her eyes any time I mention it or something is said about it on TV (yet just this morning on I think it was Good Morning America they were talking about all the ways meat can hurt you if it's undercooked).
I think I'm just frustrated and needing to vent a bit to people who might understand where I'm coming from. I dont' want to work somewhere that serves and cooks meat. I dont' want to be one of those people serving deep fried grease to other people. There's a reason I myself don't eat that stuff! But I feel like if I tell her any of this I'm just going to get yelled at for not contributing enough to the house and--in her views--not even trying. I have no problem working 40 hours a week, heck I'll work 50-60 hours a week.
Meat just grosses me out anymore. I don't see something to eat when I see a hamburger, I see a cows eyes looking back at me. Maybe that's because I grew up on a farm where cattle were present but...that's what I see.
But yea, my question is: would you, being veg*n, work somewhere that served meat? Or sold it (like a grocery store)? |
